The National Convention was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 2-5, 1998. Officers elected/appointed:

This years National Convention represents the 35th. Anniversary of The Retired Enlisted Association.

BOD MID-TERM MEETING MAY 13, 1999 ALEXANDRIA, VA

Memorial Foundation Chairman George Smith announced that the Foundation Board of Trustees has voted to reduce its size. This will be accomplished through attrition. No resumes for Foundation Trustees will be accepted at the Convention.

Membership was announced to be 89,000 members.

Chapters 57 and 78 were officially revoked following the Chapters being self- dissolved previously. Additionally Chapters 67 charter was officially revoked due to non-existence.

PRE-CONVENTION BOD MEETING SEPTEMBER 1, 1998 PITTSBURG, PA

A motion was passed to have the sidewalk and parking lot at the TREA HQ building repaired.

It was decided that Chapter operations, activities and functions be carried out on a calendar year basis.

Otho Lister reported that the VSO program includes 37 states and Puerto Rico with VSOs.

1st. BUSINESS MEETING SEPTEMBER 3, 1998 PITTSBURG, PA

Vince Niski presented that BANC assisted in chartering 3 new chapters, and that 2 more will charter in October. In addition, 60 inquires for new chapters have been received and they are working with 53 of these locations.

It was announced that starting in September, the Voice banner will read "The Retired and Active Duty Publication of The Retired Enlisted Association".

40 scholarships were awarded this year including 39 $1,000 and 1 $1,500. 7 of the recipients were female and 13 male. Last year only 30 scholarships were awarded.
