JUNE 1969 TO JUNE 1970

National Project: Merger of all retired enlisted groups into one association.

The National Convention was held in Junction City, Kansas on June 21, 1969. Officers elected/appointed were:

President - Ted Behner

1st Vice - Dean Sorell

2nd Vice - Bill Rosser

3rd Vice - Albert Martinez

Treasurer - Herman Sneiderman

Chaplain - Tommie Lancaster

Sgt-At-Arms - Sam McClure

Rec. Sec. - Joe Johnson

Trustee - Julius Orsak

Trustee - James Nelms

Highlights from the Convention: Letter from Representative Frank Evans to Julius Orsak, concerning obtaining National Chart, was read by National Secretary Murphy.

National Bulletin: It was reported that a 4-page Newsletter with 2000 circulation would cost $140.00 per month. No action was taken pending merger. President requested Don Granger and Melvin St. Peter to work with Ted Behner of REA to further explore the matter. It was moved by delegate Burke (Kansas City, seconded by delegate Smith (Junction City) to proceed if this could be accomplished without excessive cost to REA. The motion was carried.

Insurance: A GEICO Group Policy would cost $4.50 per quarter per $1,000. Continental Life Insurance Company would pay the difference between Military Medicare and total cost. This would come to $12.00 per couple per quarter. $2,000.00 of life insurance would be available. No action was taken.

Annual Treasurer's Report: A Membership report is to be submitted monthly to National, along with members' addresses and per capita dues.

National Legislative Council: Twenty-seven organizations are now cooperating.

Merger Matters: Auxiliary Convention held in abeyance until merger.

Questions: Shall active duty EM, with 15 years of service, be admitted as non- participating members? Shall medically-retired EM, with ten years of service, be eligible for associate membership:

Question of merger will be brought to attention of all Chapters in REMCA, RMA and REA. Representatives from all three organizations will get together in September in Colorado Springs to finalize details preparatory to merger in 1970.

Chapter 8 was formed in Chicago, Illinois during August of 1969.

Sudden death of National President Ted Behner causes 1st Vice President Sorell to take office of President.
