Dear Student: 

  1. Thank you for your interest in The Retired Enlisted Association’s National Scholarship program.  An application for TREA National Scholarship (TREA Form #100-94) for the 2008 program is enclosed.  The postmark deadline for submitting a Scholarship Application is April 30, 2008.  Completed applications cannot be received at TREA National Headquarters before January 2, 2008.
  1. Your attention is required to the following requirements that must be met in order for your application to be favorably considered by the Committee.

Ø       You should complete your application carefully and completely.   Incomplete or illegible applications will be returned. 

Ø       You must have dependent status as defined by the Internal Revenue Service.  Adults or emancipated children are not eligible. 

Ø       You must have a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent who is a member in good standing of The Retired Enlisted Association or TREA’s National Auxiliary or a deceased TREA or TREA Auxiliary member in good standing at time of his/her demise.  No exceptions will be made. 

Ø       Applicants will be required to select a topic from the list below for their essay.  Furthermore, a new selection will be mandatory for each succeeding year until all four topics have been addressed.  Under no circumstances will duplication of a topic be acceptable from any prior year’s application.  Procedures are in place at TREA Headquarters to insure that duplication of your essay topic is screened for your compliance with this new requirement.  Complete your essay on one of the following topics and send with your completed application.

v      Securing the Future THROUGH Higher Education 

v      What the Value of a 4-Year College Degree in the 21st Century Means to Me 

v      If I Were the “Secretary of Education” for the USA, How Would I Improve the Existing Education System 

v      What are My Higher Education Plans, and How Do I Plan on Using Them Upon Attaining a College Degree 

3.   TREA’s National Scholarship Program deals with YOUR future plans, personality, background, and even community involvement.  These are but a few of the factors considered by our Scholarship Committee members in granting awards.  In order to obtain a scholarship, you as prospective applicants, must “Get Out There and Go For It.”  Please do not hesitate to call this office if your have any questions regarding this application.
